CMS adds specialty code for ADI with effect from July 1

The new specialty code 95 has an implementation date of July 5.

With effect from July 1, 2011, the agency will establish a new specialty code 95 for Advanced Diagnostic Imaging (ADI) accreditation. As such when you submit claims, you can identify the type of provider that performed a service.

Earlier, the agency had designated this specialty code for the Competitive Acquisition Program (CAP) drug vendor project. Now this code will be used for ADI accreditation. The agency said in Transmittal 2192 that even though CMS had previously designated this specialty code to the CAP drug vendor project, it will now be assigned to ADI accreditation.

The specialty code has been established by the CMS as a valid primary and/or secondary specialty code to identify ADI accredited facilities. Specialty codes are used by Medicare contractors to develop claims processing edits. As such, be sure your enrollment in the Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS) is updated to identify your site as an accredited facility.

You should ensure your billing staffs are aware of this new specialty code for ADI accreditation. For the entire transmittal, click here: http://www.cms.gov/transmittals/downloads/R2192CP.pdf
